“If it isn’t good enough to bring home to mother, it isn’t good enough for our customers”

About Farmer Jim and Green Valley Farm!

Owner, Jim Peterson, has a great love for agriculture and bringing the bounty of our local farms to the tables of our local community.  Farmer Jim grew up in what was one of the first housing developments in his area of Wallingford Connecticut, which was surrounded by other farms, who he had worked for later in life.  Jim is the second generation away from the family farm, yet his blood runs deep in agriculture.

Jim moved to Maine in 1997 to start a horticulture program at Chop Point School and later started his own greenhouse business in Dresden with the help of four other partners.  Sonshine Growers of Maine, LLC became the well known source for independent garden centers, Shaw’s and Hannaford Stores for their outdoor garden plant programs.  People all over Maine have enjoyed the fruit of his labor.

In 2008 Jim opened The Garden of Eatin, in Richmond, in order to provide a year round source to local farm products.

In 2009, after several years of economic turmoil, Jim closed his businesses to reorganize as Green Valley Farm.  His resilience and perseverance is haled by many and his desire to continue to serve the local community is unparalleled.

We are convinced that Jim and his new Green Valley Farm operation will bring all of what he has experienced together and provide its shareholders an experience that is more than just getting great local foods!
